Sources and provenance

Source use, thematic similarity and cipher evidence are different claims. Each report links the material it used and records the limits of its verification.

Original material and community archives

Archive agreement is not independent signature authentication. A report says explicitly when a known result was reconstructed; it should not be read as authentication of every source it cites.

Literary primary texts

Work Role in this investigation
Emerson: Self-Reliance Documented historical puzzle source; LP wording comparison
Blake: The Marriage of Heaven and Hell Documented historical puzzle source; holiness and circumference motifs
Crowley: The Book of the Law Documented historical puzzle source; sacred text, letters and values
Hesse: Demian Thematic comparison only; no Cicada use established
Hesse: Siddhartha Experiential wisdom comparison only

Religious-text comparison

Session 28 compares Thomas, Buddharakkhita’s Dhammapada, Mead’s Hermeticum I and Crowley. Exact wording, interpretive parallels and source-order ambiguity are recorded separately. No new key was selected.

Science fiction and invented scripts

The Session 21 survey records twelve candidates and their limits. These are comparisons, not established Cicada sources. Primary material includes Piper’s Omnilingual, Lovecraft’s The Call of Cthulhu, and the Tolkien Estate’s writing-system account.

The Session 20 audit provides source-image hashes and pixel counts for punctuation on selected solved pages.

The Stephenson investigation extends the comparison to Cryptonomicon, The Diamond Age, The Baroque Cycle, Anathem and REAMDE, including Schneier’s original Solitaire specification.

The supplied screenshot comparison covers 34 distinct displayed pages of Snow Crash and Cryptonomicon. The attachment manifest records page assignments and fingerprints; full book pages are not republished.

Technical and contextual references

Reading the evidence labels

Verified in our tests: a calculation, input match, control, or known solution we reproduced.

Documented: an occurrence or historical step supported by the cited archive. This is not a claim that we independently authenticated its origin.

Hypothesis or interpretation: a proposed connection whose mechanism or historical intent remains unestablished.

Negative result: no positive result within a stated method and review scope. It does not rule out every variant of that idea.
